Why Serena Deeb Has Been Absent From AEW Television

Serena Deeb was offered a second chance to be a mainstream pro wrestler when AEW signed her in 2020, and she would go on to become prominently featured in their women’s division. However, she hasn’t completed since October 2022, and subsequently, there has been a lot of speculation regarding her status with the company.

And now a report by Fightful Select has shined a light on her situation. Informing their subscribers that while she has been telling people she is recuperating from a serious injury, it’s also understood that she has had a falling out with management over how much time she was being given for her matches.

“Deeb has told people that she’s dealt with a serious injury and is working to get cleared. However, there were sources within AEW who said there was also a serious disagreement with management last year that led to her being off television. We’re told that Deeb was very vocal about her use on AEW TV, and especially the time that she was given.”

37-year-old Deeb broke into the business in 2005 via OVW and, after a spell on the independent circuit, would sign with WWE in 2009. Her big break came the following year when she debuted on SmackDown as part of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society. Still, her run would only last a short time as she was let go due to not living a straight-edge lifestyle in public. This led her to return to the indies before announcing her retirement in 2015. Obviously, though, that didn’t last, and she wrestled for WWE again as part of the Mae Young Classic in 2017 before signing on to be a coach at the  Performance Center.
