Raven worked for the big three in the 90s and built himself up a cult following in the process. However, nowadays, he is hardly involved in the business apart from occasional interviews and convention appearances. And now, in one of these interviews, this time with Busted Open, the ECW original has revealed he no longer watches pro wrestling, noting if he did, he would want to get back involved.
“If I watch it, I’m gonna wanna do it. From everything I’ve heard, It’s ten minutes of good stuff and an hour-and-a-half of crap for the most part. When it’s been done at its best, I’ve been a part of it. I was already a part of it, I did it for 30-plus years. I just don’t have any interest in it anymore … The gaping holes would drive me nuts, and I would either bury the people doing it, which, why would I want to get that kind of heat? That’s another reason why I don’t wanna watch wrestling now is because I hold the wrestling business to a higher standard, and it’s a business that’s always been held to the lowest standard.”
Raven60-year-old Raven, real name Scott Levy, broke into the business in 1988 after earning a degree in criminal justice and spending time in the Marine Corps Reserves. From there, he worked under the names Scotty The Body, Scotty Flamingo, and Johnny Polo before totally reinventing himself in ECW as Raven, inspired by the famous Edgar Allan Poe poem.
Subsequently, he would also wrestle for WWE, WCW, TNA, and ROH under that gimmick, notably winning the United States Championship and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Yet, due to his health, he is semi-retired from the ring nowadays, having not run anything close to a full-time schedule since 2012.
