AEW was promoting the new “Queen of the Ring” movie during their Revolution pay-per-view, and therefore, the director and multiple actresses involved would appear on camera. However, there was a great deal of fan backlash online when Damaris Lewis, who plays Babs Wingo, said regarding pro wrestlers, “You all know you are going to win before everybody else does,” due to her basically admitting the pre-determined nature of the business during a live show.

Subsequently, the actress would be forced to limit comments on her Instagram, and she initially looked set to remain silent on the topic, hoping it would blow over. Still, with that not happening, she has now appeared on Busted Open and stated she takes full accountability but notes it came out wrong, with her not having long to come up with an answer.

“First and foremost, I completely take accountability for how it came out. That was not how it was intended, so I’m sorry, it came out way wrong. I’ve been reiterating the statement that I learned from pro wrestlers that you guys carry something in you that says, all the time, ‘I’m gonna win, I’m gonna win, I’m gonna win.’ It’s been incredibly inspiring to me. So, having a very short time period to think about an answer in the arena, that’s what came out of my mouth.”Damaris Lewis

“Queen of the Ring” is the story of Mildred Burke, who wrestled between 1935 and 1956, holding the NWA World Women’s Championship for almost two decades. And while the movie has received positive reviews, it only made $380,000 from 825 theaters during its opening weekend, which, compared to “The Iron Claw,” which made $4,868,370 from 2,774 theaters, is likely disappointing. Yet, with AEW promoting it and the director appearing as a guest during the latest Talk Is Jericho, it will be interesting to see how the second weekend does.
