Possible Reason AEW World Tag Team Championships Changed Hands On Collision

During this week’s episode of Collision, Big Bill and Ricky Starks defeated FTR in a short match to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Since then, fans have been speculating there had to be a reason behind the surprising title change, which featured Cash Wheeler quickly taken out of the match after receiving a Chokeslam through the commentary table. And now it has been reported by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio that the story behind this is that Wheeler is currently injured.

“Well, he is injured, that’s the story.”

36-year-old Wheeler was arrested back in August following an alleged road rage incident involving a firearm. He would later be released on a $2,500 bond, and many assumed because of this that FTR would drop the tag titles at the earliest opportunity. However, that didn’t transpire, and the duo has since successfully defended the belts against The Young Bucks, Bucks, Iron Savages, The WorkHorsemen, and Aussie Open. Therefore, their defeat to Big Bill and Starks was unforeseen, possibly indicating Wheeler is set for a spell on the sidelines.
