Wednesday night’s Dynamite featured The Elite against Pac and The Lucha Brothers in a trios match. However, despite the bout match being up to all six men’s exceptionally high standards, fans would be left talking about the three spots which mocked CM Punk and Ace Steel. The first being Matt Jackson purposely botching a Buckshot Lariat, which Punk did during his match with Adam Page. The second was Kenny Omega biting Pac, a clear nod to Ace Steel biting him in the locker room altercation, and then a few minutes later, he’d try to beat Pac with a GTS, but he’d kick out.
Precisely why The Elite went out of their way to do this is something only they know, but if it was to upset Punk and his friends, it seemingly worked. That is because, on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that people close to Punk were unhappy with what occurred.
I know that there’s people close to CM Punk that were, boy, they were not happy with that six-man tag match.
Dave MeltzerSome fans have taken this as a sign that Punk may be returning to AEW since it almost came across as a tease. And while it’s likely a confrontation between The Elite and CM Punk would draw enormous ratings for AEW based on past reports, it seems incredibly doubtful Punk will step foot on an AEW ring again. Furthermore, it’s believed the two sides are close to agreeing on a contract buyout that would permit Punk to continue his wrestling career elsewhere if he so chooses. Therefore it appears The Elite’s actions were done solely for their own amusement and to irritate Punk fans.
