Legendary manager and wrestling personality Paul Heyman is the well-known “special counsel” for current WWE undisputed champion Roman Reigns, and he was also the longtime “advocate” for “The Beast” Brock Lesnar.
WWE’s Smackdown airs Friday nights on FOX, and every so often the world of wrestling will cross into other programming on the network.
On Saturday, one of WWE’s most well-known non-wrestlers appeared on the NFL on FOX pregame show in a hype video for the San Francisco 49ers prior to their playoff game with the Seattle Seahawks.
Heyman used one of his most well-known catch phrases to help usher in the first playoff appearance for 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy.
“San Francisco has their own Brock,” Heyman said. “He started the year not as the backup, but as the backup’s backup. Turns out this seventh round draft pick is the NFL’s next big thing. That’s not a prediction, that’s a spoiler. I am talking about the undefeated starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy.”
Purdy has been called the “Mr. Irrelevant” of the NFL — a nickname given to the final player taken in the NFL Draft. After being named the third-string quarterback to start his rookie season, injuries to quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo thrust Purdy into the starting role. Following his success in the latter half of this season, he has been re-nicknamed Mr. Relevant.
