Rapper/singer and producer Bad Bunny is known to wrestling fans as a part-time performer with WWE having participated in the 2022 Royal Rumble and taking on Damian Priest in a San Juan Street Fight at Backlash in 2023. He also briefly held the WWE 24/7 Championship and has made several TV appearances.
Priest previously told TMZ that Bad Bunny is welcome to return to WWE, “Whenever he’s ready. That’s up to him, as far as like when he’s ready physically and mentally. Easy for me to say next week, but he has to be actually ready. And I know the way he is, he’d want to do it properly and train properly.”
Over the weekend it was announced that Bad Bunny will perform at halftime of Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” he said via social media. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
Rock fans, and SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk in particular, were not a fan of the announcement. Trunk posted to social media on Sunday: “16 years and counting since a rock act has played a Super Bowl. What a joke! I guess the whole “act from the area game is being played ” didn’t apply this year? Maybe @Metallica or @JourneyOfficial to tie in with Bay Area? Nope! Guitar free zone once again. Nothing to see or hear for rock fans once again. Sickening!”
