FOX’s hit television show, “The Masked Singer,” has had a variety of guests don outrageous costumes and participate in the karoke-style show. Everyone from comedian Larry The Cable Guy to Caitlyn Jenner to Johnny Rotten to Danny Trejo has appeared and sang on the show. But this week’s episode featured perhaps the most controversial guest in embattled former New York City mayor and lawyer Rudy Giuliani. The politician attempted to sing the George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ hit “Bad to the Bone.” Before he was revealed, panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg thought it was Joe Pesci. Robin Thicke guessed it was Robert Duvall. Nicole Scherzinger thought it was Al Rocker, and Ken Jeong chose Elon Musk. When it was revealed to be Giuliani, Jeong, who famously starred in “The Hangover” movie franchise, said “I’m done,” and walked off the set.
Giuliani’s law license was suspended in New York state and the District of Columbia after continuing to make “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public.” Giuliani said he was surprised to be picked for the show and told host Nick Cannon: “I just had a granddaughter, Grace, and I want her to know that you should try everything, even the things that are completely unlike you and unlikely — and I can’t think of anything more unlike me and unlikely than this.”
Many fans of the show were not pleased to see the former mayor. “He should be in prison, but Rudy Giuliani is on The Masked Singer right now,” said one person on Twitter. “Allowing figures like Rudy Giuliani to ostensibly rehab their image through shows like this is unacceptable,” said another. Someone else posted, “What moron decided it was a good idea to have Rudy Giuliani appear as a contestant on The Masked Singer? Whose next Vladimir Putin?” It’s not the first time the show has featured a polarizing political figure. Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was revealed as a masked singer in 2020.
