Ozzy Osbourne Blasted Proposed Back-Up Plan For Last Year’s Commonwealth Games

Back in August of last year, two of Black Sabbath’s original iron men — Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tony Iommi — made a surprise reunion appearance in their hometown of Birmingham, England to perform at the city’s Commonwealth Games.

The band teased the intro to “Iron Man” before launching into their classic track, “Paranoid.”

The appearance almost didn’t happen due to Ozzy’s ailing health. Iommi, however, hatched a plan to give “The Prince of Darkness” the motivation he needed to perform.

“Having initially turned down the request to be involved, Ozzy’s old bandmate Tony Iommi was dispatched to LA to make one final plea with him,” reported PopBitch.com. “During this meeting, Iommi let slip the back-up plan: that Robbie Williams had been lined up to fill in and sing Paranoid.”

“Ozzy’s response? ‘I ain’t letting that f*cker sing my song. I’ll do it!’”

Earlier this month, Ozzy sadly shared the news that he would have to cancel his upcoming European tour and that his days on the road in any regular capacity are likely over. He did get good news, however, when he won two Grammy Awards for his latest album “Patient Number 9.” Ozzy took the awards for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Metal Performance” for his song “Degredation Rules.” The wins marked Ozzy’s first Grammys in nearly three decades.

“I’m one lucky motherf*cker to have won the ‘Best Rock Album’ Grammy,” said Ozzy, now a five-time Grammy Award winner. “I was blessed to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world and Andrew Watt as my producer on this album. Winning the ‘Best Metal Performance’ was equally gratifying being that the song featured my longtime friend and Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi.”
