Orange Cassidy has been a staple performer for All Elite Wrestling since the company’s inception some five years ago. Currently, Cassidy appears to be headed for another chapter in his feud with AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.
AEW Dynamite will make a stop in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 30, and Cassidy talked with Web Is Jericho writer and Youngstown Studio’s B.J. Lisko ahead of the show about the feud, his origins in wrestling, coming up with the “Kicks of Doom” and much more.
Cassidy was also asked if there was a moment that he knew his “King of Sloth Style” character was going to work.
“I never thought it was going to work,” Cassidy admitted. “I never thought I’d be in this position. I never thought I’d be here. I think I use what I used back then (on the indies) as I will use now, and I don’t think I’ll ever change it. I’m going to make the professional wrestling that I like, that I would want to see. I understand that may not be for everybody and because it’s my personal taste. I obviously would alter it and make adjustments (if needed), because if the fans aren’t having a good time, what are we doing? But, I was very fortunate that the fans were accepting of something like this and something new.”
Cassidy continued: “I felt that as soon as I started doing these meet-and-greets and things that we do or seeing and hearing fans online, fans would basically tell me that they have a significant other, a mother, a father, brother, friend, whatever … they weren’t into professional wrestling, and they walked into the room with one of your matches on or I showed them a clip of you, and now they are here with me experiencing it with me, and we get to spend time together because they are enjoying professional wrestling as well. And that’s like the ultimate goal. When I started to hear that, I (told myself), ‘Alright. I think you should just keep doing what you’re doing.” But I never thought it would get to the level that it has.”
