Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil has come under scrutiny in 2021 for some of his solo performances. Neil lost his voice in May during his first performance of the year at the Boone Iowa River Valley Festival, and he fell off stage during an October performance in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. But his Mötley Crüe bandmate Nikki Sixx praised Neil in a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine.

“Vince has something that nobody else has. Isn’t that what you’re looking for — guys that don’t sound like anybody else?”

“Mötley Crüe is an interesting band, because if you remove any one member, it completely changes the sound,” Sixx said. “We all played against each other. A lot of times, Vince would tell me he struggled with the fact I put so many lyrics in a song. ‘Shout At The Devil’ is a good example. But it was because I grew up with beat generation writers as a teenager, and I would get into this kind of rhythmic frenzy. And because of the way that Vince sang, that was what made his voice excel. His voice was kind of like a Gatling gun. Like, bap-bap-bap.

Sixx continued: “I remember the first time the four of us ever played together, we ran ‘Live Wire’. I turned around to adjust my bass amp, and Tommy and I just gave each other a look: ‘Something’s happening here.’ ” … Vince has something that nobody else has. Isn’t that what you’re looking for — guys that don’t sound like anybody else?”

Mötley Crüe is scheduled to hit the road next year on a stadium tour that also includes Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. First announced for summer 2020 but postponed twice, ticket prices range from around $100 to around $4,600 for the “Motley Crue Wild Side Ultimate Package which includes a ticket in the first two rows, a meet and greet with the entire band, an autographed bass or guitar, a pair of Tommy Lee drum sticks and much more.
