Following Wednesday night’s Rampage taping, news broke that Jade Cargill was departing AEW and was likely headed to WWE. And while some reports say this isn’t confirmed, more information on the situation has been revealed by Fightful Select. In this, it’s said that while many within AEW believe she is WWE-bound, she actually told those backstage that she may simply focus on her family while running the Texas Smoke softball team, which she owns with her former MLB player husband.

“Upon returning backstage following her match with Kris Statlander in Cincinnati, Jade was greeted by several members of the roster who exchanged hugs. It was seen as a farewell within the company. There were many within the company that said she was headed to WWE, but we’ve not heard that she explicitly stated that. Instead she told people she may focus on family and her softball team that she and Brandon Phillips own.”

Cargill’s pro wrestling career began via a WWE tryout, with the 31-year-old former basketball player actually turning them down. Instead, she would focus on learning the business on her own terms and trained at both AR Fox’s and Heath Slater’s wrestling schools. Eventually, this led her to the Nightmare Factory, where QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes coached her. Subsequently, she made her AEW television debut opposite Cody and Brandi Rhodes, which saw her presented as a major star and given a Goldberg-esque winning streak. Subsequently, she became the inaugural TBS Champion, holding the belt for 508 days, the longest for any AEW championship reign.
