Earlier this week, Skid Row announced they will release a new album, “The Gangs All Here,” on Oct. 14 via earMUSIC. The band posted the title track on Friday, the first to feature new vocalist vocalist Erik Grönwall who recently joined the band as the replacement for ZP Theart. Grönwall had previously been the frontman for Swedish melodic rockers H.E.A.T. and is a former winner of “Swedish Idol,” Sweden’s version of the popular American franchise. He got on the show in 2009 by successfully auditioning with Skid Row’s “18 and Life,” and he released a new version of the song last year.
Reaction to Grönwall joining Skid Row has been mostly positive, and the new song showcases his wide vocal range. One fan posted about the song on Facebook: “Oh my f*ckin’god it’s sound like the Sebastien Bach era!!!!Erik Grönwall you’re the new metal singer King!!!!” To which Grönwall responded: “Wow… thanks man! I’m a fan of Sebastian’s voice myself. That’s one of the reasons I started singing. He’s one of the best vocalists ever in my opinion. I’m not him but as a Skid Row fan I agree that it sounds like the Skid Row I fell in love with as a teenager! Extremely proud and honored to be here doing this!”
For years, there’s been speculation that a Skid Row reunion with Bach might be in the works, but it has failed to materialize. Both sides have frequently thrown shade toward the other, and it appears the bad blood runs too deep for a reconciliation. “It’s a new era for Skid Row,” the band said in a statement. “With a new album, a new single and a world tour, we’ve added a new voice. Welcome powerhouse vocalist Erik Grönwall, formerly from the band H.E.A.T. from Sweden.” Grönwall added: “Ladies and gents. I hereby declare the circle of all f*cking circles complete. You’re looking at the new singer of @officialskidrow #skidrow #erikgronwall”.
Skid Row recorded their new album with famed producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with Foo Fighters, Stone Sour, Evanescence, Rush and Alice In Chains, among others. “We are beyond excited to release this record,” Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo said in a statement. “It has been a long time in the making and a lot of hard work has been put into it by the band and our producer Nick Raskulinecz. The addition of Erik has lifted the songs to new heights. Add all this to the fact that we start our world tour in Las Vegas with the Scorpions residency this Saturday at Zappos Theater makes it easy to say that Skid Row is going to have a great year.” Grönwall recently recovered from a bout with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
