Industrial metal legends Rammstein have topped the charts all over the world, and the band is gearing up for a tour that starts on May 15. Originally, Rammstein guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe said the band would release a new album prior to hitting the road. But unfortunately for the band and fans, those plans are seemingly derailed for a rather odd reason. “The band itself doesn’t know [when the new album will be released] at the moment,” said Rammstein composer Sven Helbig. “The trivial reason: lack of paper. They need to be able to send out a large number of CDs and records, i.e. lots of booklets and covers, worldwide at one go. And that’s probably not feasible right now.”

Helbig said that because the new record always seems to be changing, he can’t offer up many details. “It’s all under wraps, but it’s also impossible, because the band often throws songs down at the last moment, changes them. Till doesn’t want to rewrite a lyric, but Richard thinks it’s stupid. Or the guitarists can’t agree on a riff. Already a song (has been taken off the album). With the previous albums, I often looked forward to something I’d heard and thought it was great.”

Late last year, Kruspe said he thought he days of stadium metal bands was over with the exception of bands like Rammstein and Metallica. “Yes, but they are dinosaurs! Think about it, everyone in those bands is old people. We are old in comparison. Young people may also listen to rock, but they are more interested in other types of rock. The problem is that these gigantic gangs have no one to come after them. The time for bands that can fill stadiums is about to run out. What is the last band that can fill a stadium that you know?”
