Like many video games nowadays, WWE’s yearly series offers additional downloadable content for a price. Yet, while this was previously considered a cash grab, many fans like having recently signed talents available to add. Still, when it was announced that ECW original New Jack was going to also be made available to download as part of the “Fearless Pack,” many were caught off guard.

And now, during an interview with PWInsider.com, one of the franchise’s producers, Bryan Williams, has revealed that the controversial wrestler was actually added at Nick Khan’s request, as the WWE President is a big fan.

“New Jack was someone who I never expected would make it into our franchise. It’s funny because it was actually Nick Khan who recommended or suggested that we add New Jack as DLC. When I heard that information from my marketing rep I was like, ‘Really?’ They were like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s a big fan.’ I believe he’s working on the paperwork to make this thing a reality. That was a huge surprise.”PWInsider.com

While New Jack was never considered much of an in-ring performer, his charisma and hardcore style made him a huge part of ECW, and he is arguably the most over 90s talent to never compete for WWE or WCW. However, it’s easy to understand why a major promotion didn’t want to work with him, considering the legal issues he caused for ECW and the fact he’d legitimately hurt several of his opponents. Still, despite his very negative reputation, he was beloved by many of his peers and fans, so when he died from a heart attack in 2021, aged just 58, there was an outpouring of grief.
