Two years ago, classic rocker Neil Young demanded that his music be removed from streaming giant Spotify for “spreading fake information about vaccines.” Young took issue with The Joe Rogan Podcast and guests Rogan had on his show.

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he wrote at the time. “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both. With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE (‘The Joe Rogan Experience’) which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence. Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy.”

Earlier this week, Young announced that Spotify “will now be the home of my music again.” “I hope all you millions of Spotify users enjoy my songs!” he said. “They will now all be there for you except for the full sound we created.”

Young said he’s returning because “music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I had opposed at SPOTIFY.” That basically means that The Joe Rogan Podcast is available now on more platforms, and Young would have no choice but to stop streaming his music entirely if he continued his boycott. “My music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all,” he said.

He also hopes that Spotify will improve its sound quality in the future. “Hopefully Spotify will turn to Hi Res as the answer and serve all the music to everyone,” he said. “Spotify, you can do it! Really be #1 in all ways. You have the music and the listeners!!!! Start with a limited Hi res tier and build from there! Thanks for your support folks!”
