Mustafa Ali Requests WWE Release Following Argument With Vince McMahon

Mustafa Ali last wrestled for WWE on the 29th October episode of SmackDown in a two-minute defeat against Drew McIntyre. Since then, he has been home, with it believed he was simply on paternity leave following the birth of his third child. However, he has seemingly been waiting to return for some time and has been working on an updated gimmick that is believed to be political in nature.

Now though, according to Fightful Select, that gimmick idea was rejected, and instead, Vince McMahon proposed an alternative. Apparently, this led to a heated argument between Ali and McMahon as it was something that Ali would never do. Subsequently, Ali hasn’t been seen backstage since and has requested his release from WWE, which he has publicly revealed on Twitter.

Whether he will be granted his release remains to be seen, as while the company has been releasing countless wrestlers, they prefer to let go on their own terms. This was evident when it came out that both Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado requested their own releases in September 2021, and it took two months until the company granted them along with multiple other wrestlers they were firing.

Ali has been with WWE since 2016, having spent the prior 13 years on the indies and working as a police officer. While always popular with fans, he never received a sustained push, and one point was off television for seven months. Upon his return, he would be put with Retribution as the group’s leader, which was always doomed for failure. Subsequently, he was paired with Mansoor as tag team so that they could be broken up and Mansoor could get a victory in his home county of Saudi Arabia.
