A video that has made the rounds among fans of English rockers Muse has surfaced again from behind-the-scenes footage of the band in France in 2001. In the video, Muse drummer Dominic Howard gives his best Corey Taylor impression after he was given the mask of Slipknot’s frontman by bandmate Matt Bellamy. Muse’s singer/guitarist explained how he got Taylor’s mask: “Oh, the Slipknot guy threw it to this girl at the side of the stage after they played because he must have wanted to impress her. Unfortunately for him she wanted me, so we got it. I think Dom got possessed by the spirit of Slipknot when he put it on. He was running around screaming.”
In the video while wearing the mask, Howard talks about the first time he saw Slipknot: “The band were walking onstage, all f*cking nine of the f*ckers, all f*cking walking up, giving it some of that” he said, whilst lifting his shoulders. Howard then re-enacts Taylor screaming to the crowd to “sit the f*ck down.” Howard then puts a sombrero on top of the mask while head banging and screaming around the Muse tour bus.
The video was released as behind-the-scenes footage onto Muse’s Hullabaloo DVD, which documented the band’s performances at Le Zénith in Paris, France in 2001, along with backstage moments recorded around the world. In January, Muse released a new single, “Won’t Stand Down,” marking a return to the band’s heavier sound of old. It’s the first song from the band’s forthcoming studio album set to be released later this year. Muse will hit the road this June and July with shows around Europe.
