MJF’s AEW Future In Doubt After He No-Showed Double Or Nothing Fan Fest

On Saturday, AEW was forced to refund fans who had paid to meet MJF at their Double Or Nothing fan fest after the star no-showed and couldn’t be contacted by phone. Initially, fans were concerned, but it was later established he was instead at a Casino. Since then, it has been debated whether MJF was simply doing something his character would do, or it was actually a shoot, and he had become disgruntled with AEW. Since then, it has been reported by Figtful Select that MJF had booked a flight out of Las Vegas despite him being scheduled for a featured match against Wardlow on Sunday. While PWInsider has stated that he didn’t board the plane, therefore giving hope the situation could be resolved.

The recent speculation has been that following multiple high-profile signings by Tony Khan, the AEW original asked for a significant pay rise. And while Khan was open to this, in return, he wanted MJF to extend his contract beyond the 18 months remaining. This appears to be the sticking point, as it is known MJF has always wanted to work for WWE, and with Cody Rhodes, who is a supporter of his being there, he clearly has an in. How this now plays out remains to be seen. Yet, right now, the priority for AEW is simply putting on the match between MJF and Wardlow, which has been slowly building up since the pair first aligned in 2019.
