MJF Planning Alternative To Surgery After Suffering Torn Labrum

MJF Planning Alternative To Surgery After Suffering Torn Labrum

Coming out of AEW’s Full Gear event last month, it was noted that MJF was hurt during his match with Jay White. Then, earlier this week, MJF himself announced on X that he had suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder before deleting the post. Obviously, this is terrible timing for AEW with their next pay-per-view, Worlds End, fast approaching and being built around MJF vs. Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship. However, Dave Meltzer has now reported in the latest issue of his Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the injured star isn’t planning on having surgery and will instead receive stem cell therapy and focus on rehab.

“He won’t be getting surgery and is going to be working on stem cell therapy and rehab to get ready. Surgery would have put him out for a couple of months. Whether he will do a match between now and then is not known, but he believes he can do careful matches or smoke & mirror matches prior to the PPV.”

What the long-term future holds for 27-year-old MJF remains unclear as, according to him, he will be a free agent on January 1st, 2024. Therefore, it can only be assumed WWE will make a play for him, not just because he is one of AEW’s most prominent stars but because he is a generational talent. Still, there has been plenty of speculation that his contract status could be a work, and many believe he has already re-signed with Tony Khan, which would explain his current push.
