Despite being 56, Minoru Suzuki is still considered one of the best wrestlers in the world and chooses to be a true independent contractor by picking and choosing his bookings. This would, therefore, result in him having a jam-packed WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas, as he wrestled five matches in two days. However, while four of his matches received positive reviews, his match at WrestleCon’s Mark Hitchcock Memorial SuperShow against Butterbean is already being spoken of as a contender for the worst match of the year.
And now, in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that backstage, Suzuki was “very upset,” feeling he’d just had his own personal worst match ever. Still, everyone who witnessed the work-shoot style match, which finished with an always unpopular double count-out, entirely blamed Butterbean.
Butterbean first made his name via the tough man scene, and due to his knockout power, distinctive look, and outgoing personality, he soon transcended combat sports and became a celebrity. This led him to become known to pro wrestling fans through his involvement with WWE, which famously saw him legitimately knock out Bart Gunn at WrestleMania XV. Still, the 58-year-old’s health has been very poor in recent years, and while DDP Yoga would help him drop weight and return to walking unassisted, it appears returning to the ring was a mistake.
