Mick Foley Compares Twitter To “Dodging Turds”

When it was first reported that Elon Musk was buying the microblogging platform Twitter, the hashtag #LeavingTwitter started to trend. And while he didn’t use the hashtag, Mick Foley would tweet that he was seriously considering leaving, adding that he didn’t a good feeling about where the bird app was heading. So when Musk’s takeover was complete as of October 27th, Foley followed through and closed his account. And now, while speaking on his podcast, he has given more insight into how he views the social media platform, humorously saying he was finding it to be “an exercise in dodging turds.

It would be easy to blame the atmosphere on Twitter, that was part of it, but Conrad, since day one, I had trouble using Twitter in moderation. It’s mostly on me. I struggled with it. I think a lot of people do, and then you get to where you’re spending hours a day looking at everything on there.

As it became progressively more divisive, I began to feel like I was swimming in a pool full of turds, one turd, you can dodge that turd, and you can still enjoy the crystal water, but at a certain point, when being on Twitter just becomes an exercise in dodging turds, it’s time to get out of the water, and that’s what I did.

It’s disappointing that Foley has departed the Twitterverse, as he has always brought a level of positivity to the platform few others do. Nevertheless, it is a time vampire, and ultimately if he isn’t enjoying using the platform, it’s for the best he quits. Nonetheless, the WWE Hall of Famer has taken breaks in the past and always returned, so it would be a brave person to bet against him to become a Twitter regular again.
