Mercedes Moné Injured At NJPW Resurgence (w/Video)

Mercedes Moné, previously known as Sasha Banks in WWE, participated this Sunday in a tournament to crown the first NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. And while she would win her semi-final bout against Stephanie Vaquer, it’s now been confirmed by Banks herself on Twitter that she suffered an injury in the final, which Willow Nightingale won.

Precisely, what happened isn’t clear, but it is speculated that her injury (rumored to be a broken ankle) occurred when she jumped from the top rope to the floor while clotheslining Nightingale’s neck across the rope, as can be seen below.

Moné made her New Japan debut in January after months of speculation about her future. During this, she would attack reigning IWGP Women’s Champion Kairi announcing she was now with the promotion, and the duo wrestled the following month, with Moné being victorious. Her reign, though, would only last 64 days as Mayu Iwatani has since defeated her.
