At one point, it looked like Maxx Payne, also known as Man Mountain Rock in WWE, was going to be a big star in the business, having gained fame in WCW. However, he stepped away from the ring, seemingly having decided the industry wasn’t for him. And now, decades on from his wrestling stardom, popular X user @IANdrewDiceClay has shared a photograph taken during an appearance at The Wrestling Collector, showing the 64-year-old rocking the iconic leather jacket he memorably wore for some of his biggest matches.
Payne, real name Darryl Peterson, was a towering 6’6″, 350-pound competitor with a background in amateur wrestling, having gained All-American honors at Iowa State. He gained prominence in WCW as the gritty, hard-hitting Maxx Payne from 1993 to 1994, showcasing strong brawling skills before joining the WWF in 1995, where he was repackaged as the guitar-wielding Man Mountain Rock, a cartoonish heavy metal character whose name was seemingly inspired by Man Mountain Dean. Still, this gimmick would ultimately flop, and he would instead pursue music and acting, while also famously suing over the Max Payne video game name, which was settled out of court.
