In recent years, “The Self-Made Superstar” Matt Cardona has become one of the most successful independent wrestlers of all time. Back in late March, Cardona made an appearance with AEW which led to speculation he might join the company full time. Cardona’s wife, Chelsea Green, also returned to the WWE last year, which led others to believe he might go back to his old employer.
In a recent interview with Youngstown Studio, Cardona talked mostly about his passion for toy collecting, but he did hint at his future wrestling plans once he recovers from a torn pec.
“Edge was the ‘Rated R Superstar,’ I’m the ‘Self-Made Superstar’,” Cardona said. “I’m very, very proud of that. Obviously the comeback is gonna happen in 2024. I’m not gonna drop (when that is), it’s gonna be a surprise thing. I don’t wanna say I’m gonna be out for six months or eight months, I’m just gonna come back. But what’s next? I’ve been the ‘Death Match King,’ I’ve been the ‘Indie God.’ I’ve won titles all over the world. I’ve done everything there is to do on the indies. I think it’s either time to go back to WWE. Go to AEW or do something on the indies that’s never been done, which I’ve already done, so how do I top myself? It’s a challenge, and it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
