Major Update On SmackDown’s Announce Team Going Forward

On Monday night, wrestling reporter Aaron Varble shared on his X account that commentator Kevin Patrick was being removed from his spot behind the SmackDown announce desk. Varble says he was told the reason was “it just wasn’t working out,” and since then, multiple other sources have verified this news. Who is set to take over his position remains unknown, but there will likely be a lot of competition for such a prestigious role.

Patrick, real name Kevin Egan, moved from Ireland to America in 2009 to follow his dream of being a sports broadcaster. Subsequently, he worked for both CNN and Apple TV before joining WWE in 2021, initially as a backstage correspondent before being promoted to commentary, first on Raw and then SmackDown. Whether this leads to Patrick’s WWE departure remains to be seen, although he may just be reassigned duties given his experience.
