Madison Rayne Opens Up On Her Decision To Retire

Madison Rayne, best known for her time in TNA, recently announced her retirement to prioritize her full-time role as an agent and producer in AEW, a position she deeply enjoys. And now, while appearing on Boots To Boots, she explained that juggling wrestling and producing was a difficult commitment, and she wanted to avoid overstaying her welcome as an in-ring performer, having been one for 20 years.

“You have to give 100 percent of yourself to both of them, and giving 100 percent of myself to two separate things in one day was challenging. But also, I’ve always had in the back of my mind this little voice telling me, ‘Get out and retire and know when enough is enough.’ People do it all the time; they outstay their welcome in the wrestling business, and I didn’t want to be somebody that did that. At this point, when my full-time job is coach producer, and I love it so much, it was like these two things both telling me it’s time to celebrate your career instead of trying to prolong it past what is necessary.” - Madison Rayne

39-year-old Rayne, born Ashley Simmons, debuted in 2005 on the independent circuit and soon appeared in promotions such as the Heartland Wrestling Association, Shimmer, and Wrestlicious. Joining TNA in 2009, she rose to fame as one of The Beautiful People, becoming a five-time Knockouts World Champion and three-time Tag Team Champion. Additionally, she competed in ROH and made one WWE appearance at the 2018 Mae Young Classic, where she put over Mercedes Martinez.
