Former WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria previously said she had an affinity for symphonic metal bands like Nightwish and Evanescence. Recently, she appeared on The Battleground Podcast and was asked what artist on her playlist might surprise people.
Perhaps no rock band has been more polarizing over the past 30 years than Canadian giants Nickelback. The backlash to their success has been so noteworthy that a 2023 documentary, “Hate To Love: Nickelback,” covered their fascinating story. Despite the shade the band has received over the years, they’re still one of the most popular and successful bands in rock.
Count Valkyria among their legion of fans. “I feel like you’d expect like Nightwish and Evanescence — and you’ll see a lot of that — but people hate that I love Nickelback,” she said (as reported by Ringside News). “Nickelback are one of the best bands ever. I love them.”
The show’s hosts called her choice polarizing but admitted there’s no need to hate on the band. “I think you can’t get any better, but yeah, people get angry when they see that on my playlist,” Valkyria added.
