Lucha libre legend Konnan successfully underwent kidney transplant surgery in 2007. This was necessary due to years of painkiller and anti-inflammatory medication usage. Sadly though, it has now been reported by Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the former WCW star requires a second kidney transplant.
On average, a kidney transplant lasts between 10 and 12 years, so Konnan’s first would be classed as a success. Thankfully he doesn’t need dialysis at present, but it could eventually be necessary. He is currently on a waiting list that is estimated to be seven years long in the US, so he is also looking at the possibility of getting the procedure carried out in Mexico.
Our thoughts are with Konnan at this time, and hopefully, he can continue his roles with AAA, MLW, and Impact Wrestling while waiting for the transplant.
