Ozzfest was a traveling heavy metal festival that had its heyday in the late ‘90s through 2010. Named after the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, the show has returned a few times since as a stand-alone event, but metal fans have longed for the tour which combined several established bands with the scene’s up-and-comers.
Now it appears Ozzfest may be making a comeback. In a new interview with Billboard, Ozzy’s wife and festival organizer Sharon Osbourne said: “I’ve been talking to Live Nation about bringing it back recently. It was something Ozzy was very passionate about: giving young talent a stage in front of a lot of people. We really started metal festivals in this country. It was copied but never done with the spirit of what ours was, because ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids.”
Osbourne said that the new iteration of the festival could be more diverse musically than its predecessor. “I’d like to mix up the genres,” she said.
It was also announced earlier this week that an Ozzy tribute is set for this weekend’s Grammy Awards. Post Malone will be joined by Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt for a performance honoring “The Prince of Darkness.”
