It’s seemed for some time that the long-term goal for WWE has been Roman Reigns vs. The Rock to crown the true Head of the Table. However, with a match that big only being possible at WrestleMania and with the event fast approaching, it has been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Rock only has days to agree to compete. That is because the show needs to be locked down, and The Rock would need time to get ready.
We were told that unless he changes his mind in the next few days, since a deadline for Mania plans is coming, that he’s indicated he won’t have time to get into the kind of shape he feels he needs to be in to do a main event match with Roman Reigns, but kept the door open for something in the future. Of course it is a possibility that it’s something being kept a secret from everyone.
Dave Meltzer via WONIt seems far-fratched that The Rock would have left it to now to get into wrestling shape, considering his last full match was a decade ago, although stranger things have happened in wrestling. Nevertheless, it’s believed Cody Rhodes is ready to slot into The Rock’s place, and for some, that is an even more captivating main event given Rhodes’ own storybook return to WWE, which was cut short by injury. Ultimately, while WrestleMania 39’s main event does seem up in the air when the Royal Rumble concludes, things should be much more evident.
