Latest On Cody Rhodes’ Recovery Following Torn Pec Surgery

Following a memorable return at WrestleMania, it appeared that Cody Rhodes would become the new face of WWE. Unfortunately, though, two months afterward, he suffered a torn pec while working out, which put his highly anticipated rematch with Seth Rollins at Hell In A Cell in doubt. Nevertheless, depending on your perspective, he would bravely or foolishly complete in the cage and, in the process, elevate himself in the minds of fans. Thus ensuring a hero welcome awaits him when he can resume his career.

And now, four months from surgery, Dave Meltzer has reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter the former AEW star’s recovery is ahead of schedule. With it possible, he could be ready to wrestle as early as Day 1 on January 1st, 2023. Additionally, it was confirmed he has been training with DDP, which can only be viewed positively considering the near miracles the WWE Hall of Famer has achieved with people in far worse condition than Rhodes.

Rhodes appears to be a little ahead of schedule in healing. He’s working with DDP. Things are normal for him in real life but obviously any upper body weights he can use are extremely light. There’s no firm date for a return this early, and even when there is, I would expect it’ll be kept quiet for a surprise pop. Originally the idea of Rumble looked good. Perhaps Day 1 since it’s in Atlanta and he grew up and still lives there.

Rhodes is currently the oddsmaker’s favorite to win the men’s Royal Rumble match ahead of The Rock. With it appearing inevitable Roman Reigns will be defending at least one of his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against one of them at WrestleMania 39. However, if Rhodes doesn’t receive the coveted main event spot, it will come across too many as WWE dropping the ball, with the former AEW being at the peak of his popularity, having jumped from AEW back to WWE. Yet, it should be noted Rhodes’ initial push was under Vince McMahon’s leadership, so the decision will hinge on how Triple H sees him.
