When Lacey Evans departed WWE in August, it was initially believed her contract had expired. However, after hardly being used on television in the proceeding months, it turned out she actually requested her release from the company. And now, during a recent interview with Tino Sabbatelli & Mandy Rose on their Power Alphas Podcast, she has revealed she wanted out because she didn’t want to be stuck in catering anymore due to management not seeing her as a “top guy.”

“If they can’t make a decision, I will, and I asked for my release. I asked, verbatim, can I slip out the side door because I’m addicted to not sitting in catering…I’m not doing it. I’m coming where I come from, and what I’ve been through, and what I’ve had to do. Nobody’s gonna talk to me any certain way. I’m not gonna sit my ass in catering eating steak anymore. Love the catering, by the way. It’s incredible. With this alpha mentality, I’ve gotta be making moves. If you don’t see me as a top guy and you have the ability to make that choice, let me go because I know where I’m a top guy.”
After several years in the military, Evans began training at a wrestling school in 2014, signing with WWE just two years later. Then, in 2018, she’d adopted the gimmick of a sassy southern belle, establishing herself as one of the top heels in WWE’s women’s division. It was believed she was going to win the Raw Women’s Championship from Asuka at Elimination Chamber in 2021. But, following the revelation that she was pregnant, that plan was scrapped. And despite her returning to the company after giving birth, she wasn’t pushed at the same level again, even after undergoing a gimmick change.
