Nirvana‘s 1993 MTV Unplugged session that aired on December 16th, 1993, is considered iconic and featured Nirvana playing lesser-known songs and covers of Lead Belly Vaselines, David Bowie, and Meat Puppets. It would go on to be released on CD following the death of Kurt Cobain and debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200.

Now following on from Cobain’s stage worn and unwashed cardigan from the set, selling for $334,000 in October 2019, the 1959 Martin D-18E guitar from the performance is scheduled to be auctioned off. The estimated bid is a jaw-dropping $1 million, and the winner will also receive the original hard case decorated with a leaflet of Poison Idea’s Feel the Darkness album, a half-used pack of guitar strings, several guitar picks, and a suede bag.

Also, going up for auction will be a broken Fender Stratocaster electric guitar used on the In Utero tour, a copy of Nirvana’s 1989 Bleach CD cover signed “Kurdt,” and the shirt Cobain wore in the Heart-Shaped Box video.

The auction will take place on location, or online through JuliensAuctions.com on Friday, June 19th, and Saturday, June 20th.
