Hulk Hogan had an in-ring career spanning 34 years, working with legends like Roddy Piper and Andre The Giant, as well as current stars like AJ Styles and Randy Orton. Still, he has been involved in more than his fair share of controversies, and during Raw’s Netflix debut at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, he was booed out of the building. And now Kurt Angle, who worked with Hogan in both WWE and TNA, has addressed this during an interview with Bill Apter, blaming the reaction on politics.

“Let the fans do what they want to do. Hulk Hogan’s a legend; you can’t take that away from him. He’s probably the most popular pro wrestler of all time. He’s an incredible human being, but sometimes politics gets in the way.”

While Hogan made it clear he is fully committed to Donald Trump during the now-president’s campaign, several other wrestlers have also shared their support for the businessman-turned-politician and haven’t received the same reaction. Therefore, some suspect that allegations of racism could be the real reason fans have turned against the two-time WWE Hall of Famer.

However, it should be noted that Hogan himself claims he doesn’t believe this is the cause, stating on The Pat McAfee Show that fans in California were still against him due to his past association with the nWo, noting, “I ran hard in LA, I was a bad guy. I was Hollywood Hogan and riding dirty with Nash and Hall.”
