Korn is out on tour in support of its recent album, “Requiem,” which was released Feb. 4. Nearly three decades after getting their start, guitarist Brian “Head” Welch said the band is proud to be viewed as one of the originator” of the nü-metal genre. “We’re proud to be seen as scene elders,” Welch said. “It’s funny, every band that would be associated with nü-metal never liked that title, because we never gave that tag to ourselves, it was whoever made it up, you know? When you’re in a band, you want to call the shots, you want to be in charge of your branding, and it was someone else who branded us that. And so we were like, ‘No, that’s not cool. So we didn’t like it. But nü-metal, love it or hate it, and Korn, has stood the test of time. And we’re very grateful that we can be looked at as the originators, and that we started something that still reverberates all these decades later, and people are still liking it.”
Korn played in Iowa recently, and someone opened fire on one of their buses landing at least one shot while it was parked outside a hotel in Davenport, Iowa, according to TMZ. Davenport Police said they were alerted Friday morning that someone shot at the vehicle. Luckily no one was injured. TMZ reported: “A source familiar with the situation tells us the bullet pierced the exterior wall of the bus and was found inside the cabin. The saving grace here is that no one was on board at the time of the shooting.”
Korn is touring with Chevelle and Code Orange through the end of the month. Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer previously said that there are some songs on “Requiem” may take fans by surprise. “I feel like it’s gonna take fans a minute to kind of digest,” he said. “And also, you have to put yourself where we were in the middle of C*VID. The whole world shut down. At one point, L.A. had these big fires and there was this orange sky, the virus was out there — it just felt so dystopian.”
