Konnan Defends AAA Booking Alberto Del Rio

It was recently announced that Alberto Del Rio would be returning to AAA for a tournament featuring the sons of wrestlers, and subsequently, there has been a lot of backlash from disgruntled fans. Now though AAA booker Konnan has addressed these during an interview with Wrestling Inc, noting that Del Rio is a changed man and that he has to live with the stigma of his past sexual assault arrest and prior toxic relationship with Saraya for the rest of his life, seemingly saying that should be punishment enough.

I don’t know what happened between him and Saraya, only they know. Obviously it wasn’t anything good because it was a bitter separation. But he’s got to live, bro, with that stigma for the rest of his life. And I’ll give you an example. He told me that he had to move from his neighborhood because the other parents’ kids, they didn’t want to play with his kids. Everywhere he goes… He was like a hero in Mexico. And he went from a hero to a zero. Bro, you got to live with that, okay? Now, how long do I keep punishing him? He’s been out of the business two or three years … I spoke to him, and he’s told me he’s changed.

45-year-old Del Rio was meant to wrestle at the promotions Triplemania event nine months ago as Laredo Kid’s mystery partner in a three-way tag match. However, the ex-wife’s death prevented this, and he has been focused on raising his children. He has, though, occasionally been wrestling on much smaller shows in Mexico, with his last match of note taking place last November, which was a tribute to his 71-year-old father, Dos Caras.
