Kofi Kingston Comments On His Squash Defeat To Brock Lesnar

SmackDown moved to FOX on October 4, 2019, and due to wanting to kick off their relationship with the network positively, WWE booked Brock Lesnar to challenge for the WWE Championship and wrestle on SmackDown for the first time since 2004. And while it was anticipated by most Lesnar would win, few expected it would be a seven-second squash. And now, during an interview with NBC Sports Boston, Kingston has commented on the match, simply saying he doesn’t dwell on it as it won’t alter what happened, acknowledging doing so would make him feel bad.

There are a lot of things in the industry that you look at sometimes and go, “Woah, why did that happen?” You just move on, and the wheel keeps on turning. For me to dwell on what happened in that match with Brock Lesnar doesn’t serve me any purpose. It’s not going to make me better or change what happened or do anything besides make me feel bad, and I’m not going to let it do that. I have a lot more career left to handle.

There was massive social media backlash towards WWE following Kingston’s quick defeat. Still, WWE ignored this, and Kingston was soon back in his old spot, wrestling in six-man tag matches as part of the New Day. Ultimately though, Kingston still achieved something few in the business ever will, and hopefully, he can at least look back at his almost six-month run as champion positively. As not only did he win the title in a featured match at WrestleMania, he also successfully defended it against Samoa Joe, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens on pay-per-view.
