Kid Rock was set to perform Friday night at the North Dakota State Fair to some 18,000 fans. Unfortunately for concertgoers, the show couldn’t go as planned due to weather conditions, and some in the audience vented their frustrations following the cancelation. TMZ reported that the nix of the concert triggered “an angry backlash from fans who trashed the venue.”

Ward County Sheriff Bob Roed made the announcement around 10:30 p.m. that that show would not go on. KFYRTV reported: “Roed told Your News Leader he was with Rock’s band when they made the decision at 10:30 p.m., and Roed had to go on stage to tell the roughly 18,000 fans that the show would not go on.” Exacerbating fan frustration was the fact that earlier in the night, Rock’s opener Night Ranger played an extended set at the event. Kid Rock posted on social media about the decision: “SO PISSED OFF we could not play for a sold out crowd tonight in Minot, ND (because of high winds) – I know it sucks but none of us can control mother nature. Please be safe leaving and take care of each other.”

The North Dakota State Fair also said: “Due to the safety concerns of the high winds, lightning, and severe weather in the area, the Kid Rock concert had to be cancelled,” the statement read. “The North Dakota State Fair will be issuing refunds to all ticket purchasers.”

A tornado warning was issued in some North Dakota counties during the 9 p.m. hour, and there were reports of wind damage around the time of the planned concert. Many fans posted angry comments on social media as carnival rides stayed active and Night Ranger still performed. Viewer video also showed a man being tackled shortly after the cancelation. Fans had waited around 90 minutes to see the show before being told it would not happen.

Earlier this year Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked Kid Rock: “Why haven’t you been canceled? Like, people aren’t allowed to say what they think. You are.” Rock says he’s “uncanelable, ‘cause I don’t give a s*it. I’m not in bed with any big corporate things. At the end of the day, there’s nobody I’m beholden to: no record companies, no corporate interests, no nothing. You can’t cancel me. I love it when they try.”
