Kevin Owens Wants To Wrestle Indie Match While Under WWE Contract

Over the years, WWE has been reluctant even to acknowledge the existence of other promotions, especially if deemed competition. However, under Triple H, it appears that may be a thing of the past, as after allowing Rey Mysterio to appear on tape at AAA’s Triplemania event earlier this month, it was announced that Shinsuke Nakamura would be on NOAH’s January 1st show wrestling in the main event against The Great Muta as part of Keiji Mutoh’s ongoing retirement tour. So now, while appearing on After The Bell, Kevin Owens has revealed he would love to wrestle again on the independent circuit, noting it would just be for fun and feels this is now a possibility.

I’m very deeply rooted in the independent scene. That’s where I came up. I still have so many friends there. There are a few wrestling companies, independent companies that I still hold very near and dear to my heart that I’d love to maybe one day show back up on just for fun whether it’s a promo or maybe it’s a match. Now it feels like more of a possibility than ever. That’s stuff that over the years I’ve always thought “hey man, it’d be really cool if I get to do that one day.”

Now it feels like more of a possibility than ever. And that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen but it feels that it could now. And that’s very exciting. The fans and the wrestlers. If you get someone from the independent scene, most of the time, you’ll get someone who is very passionate.

Whether WWE actually permits Owens remains to be seen, but it is certainly more likely than ever. And while the scene isn’t as thriving as it once was, there are still a lot of very talented performers working on the indies. Nevertheless, Owens would likely need to go over, putting off some higher-profile independents. Still, considering what he would bring in through extra exposure and revenue, others would jump at the opportunity, even if it means sacrificing a homegrown talent.
