Kevin Owens Comments On His SmackDown Return After Recently Being Kept Off Television

Kevin Owens has been kept off WWE television due to not wanting to travel to Saudi Arabia in a show of solidarity with Sami Zayn, who is effectively banned from the country because of his ethnicity. He has, though, still been wrestling on house shows, mainly teaming with Johnny Gargano in tag matches against The Usos or Alpha Academy and regularly facing Austin Theory in singles contests.

However, according to Dave Meltzer, last weekend, he suffered an MCL sprain during a match with Theory when he planted his right knee awkwardly. Therefore when he returned to SmackDown on Friday, fans were surprised and delighted to see him, and he has now taken to Twitter to thank them for how they reacted to his return.

When news broke that Owens was hurt, many fans hoped he’d recover in time for the Royal Rumble. Nevertheless, he is clearly able to work through the injury, or WWE wouldn’t have re-introduced him. And while it’s likely the company is disappointed he wouldn’t compete at Crown Jewel, they clearly haven’t held it again him, as he now has a coveted spot as part of Sheamus’ Survivor Series team facing The Bloodline in a WarGames match.
