Jon Moxley’s Return Announced

Jon Moxley’s Return Announced

Two months ago, news broke that Jon Moxley had entered a residential alcohol treatment program. Since then, AEW and Moxley have kept updates to a minimum. However, it appears that things have gone well for the former WWE and AEW Champion as his first match since his hiatus has now been revealed.

Game Changer Wrestling has now announced that Moxley, who is the promotions World Champion, will be defending the title against Homicide at their The WRLD On GCW event on January 23rd. This announcement comes as quite a surprise as it was expected that when Moxley’s return was announced, it would be for AEW. Yet, there is still the possibility he will appear this Wednesday on Dynamite.

Moxley became the GCW World Champion back in September 2021 when he defeated Matt Cardona in 75 seconds after making an unadvertised appearance. He would then defend the title against Nick Gage the following month, and with it not known the severity of Moxley’s alcohol issues, he would retain the title. Since then, the championship hasn’t been defended, although a #1 Contendership Rumble match was held on January 1st with Homicide winning.
