Jim Ross Comments on Edge Possibly Joining AEW

Following Edge’s SmackDown match with Sheamus two weeks ago, it would come out that the 49-year-old’s WWE deal was set to expire at the end of September, with him having completed all his contracted matches. Subsequently, this news would lead to speculation that the WWE Hall of Famer may be AEW-bound, and many fans hope to see him become All Elite soon for the fresh opponents. Now, though AEW commentator Jim Ross has commented on this talk during Grilling JR, and while acknowledging it would set up some dream matches, he feels it would be a “long shot at very best.

“It’d be great. I haven’t given it much thought. How about Edge and Kenny Omega? Edge and Will Ospreay. There are a million ways to monetize this potential, but I don’t have any inside information, I don’t know if it’s even feasible. I have heard, through the grapevine, that WWE has an offer on the table for him that is significant, as it should be. I don’t know. I think it would be a long shot at very best that Edge comes to work at AEW.”

Following reports of his WWE departure spreading, Edge would himself take to social media and reveal that he had a new WWE contract sitting in his inbox while speaking very positively about the company; however, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do regarding retirement. While this made it sound like joining AEW was the furthest thing from his mind, it should be noted that before his comeback in 2020, he denied in an interview he was returning to the ring, therefore proving he isn’t afraid to kayfabe fans when the timing is appropriate.
