Back in 2015 when AC/DC singer Brian Johnson was forced to step aside from the band due to hearing issues, fans speculated as to who might fill in for the rock icons. Numerous names were thrown about including Jesse James Dupree (Jackyl), Marc Storace (Krokus), Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo) and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), among others, before the job ultimately went to Guns ’N’ Roses singer Axl Rose.
Actor Jack Black, who is also 1/2 of comedy rockers Tenacious D, even playfully threw himself into the mix at the time after an Australian interviewer suggested “You’d be perfect for it.”
Black responded: “I couldn’t hit those high notes. Are you kidding me? They are funny dudes, too. They got a great sense of humor. They should get someone with a good sense of humor. Not that I’m trying to push myself for the job. If they could transpose the jams down a few bars, I think I’m the guy.”
Black previously performed AC/DC’s “It’s A Long Way To The Top” in the 2003 hit film “School Of Rock.” He again got the chance to perform AC/DC recently when he joined Foo Fighters and drum tech Fiona Jeans for a rendition of “Big Balls” at the band’s Jan. 20 show in Auckland, New Zealand.
