Over the past year, WWE has been leaving it very late to re-sign talents, with Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest being examples of this. Whether this is a deliberate negotiation tactic being used by the company remains unclear, although it was recently revealed that Chad Gable’s WWE deal only had days remaining.
This news subsequently resulted in a great deal of speculation online over Gable’s long-term future, with AEW fans ready to welcome him with open arms. However, PWInsider.com has now reported that Gable is “extremely close or has come to terms with WWE and will continue with the company.”
38-year-old Gable, real name Charles Betts, was a very accomplished amateur wrestler who joined WWE in November 2013, making his television debut in January 2015. Since then, he has mostly been utilized as a tag team specialist and has won championship gold alongside Jason Jordan, Bobby Roode, and Otis. Yet, recently, he has been pushed as a singles talent, challenging Gunther and then Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship.
