Earlier this week, rock legends Guns N’ Roses shared news that they were amicably parting ways with longtime drummer Frank Ferrer. Some fans speculated that the group might bring back one of their former drummers in Steven Adler or Matt Sorum, but that won’t be the case.
The band announced on Thursday that they have recruited Isaac Carpenter who is set to tour with the group throughout their 2025 European, Asian and Middle East treks. Carpenter has worked live and/or in studio with Guns bassist Duff McKagan for his Loaded project. He’s also played with A Perfect Circle, Loudermilk, The Exits, Ours and Black Lab.
Reaction to Carpenter’s hiring were mixed via comments on X. One user wrote: “This is how opportunities are broken with egos and short-sight (and I mean on both sides). Could have been the biggest reunion making the 90´s line-up nearly complete. Axl, Duff, Slash, Matt, Dizzy, … just like during the Use Your Illusion-Tour. Something worth seeing. Now this way I have had it and many might think like me.”
Another said: “Why not Matt Sorum? Matt is better,” while another added: “That’s interesting. Duff connection. Meanwhile, somewhere, Steven Adler kicks rocks.”
Others offered praise. “Please, people… don’t hate on the guy just because of who he isn’t. He’s a great drummer as well as a lovely guy. He played on the Duff McKagan’s Loaded album, The Taking. If you haven’t heard it, do so ASAP.”
