Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne announced their “Back To The Beginning” farewell concert earlier this year, and the lineup is a veritable who’s who of hard rock and heavy metal. In addition to Sabbath and Ozzy, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Rival Sons, Anthrax, Halestorm, Lamb of God and Anthrax are among the bands set to perform, and a “supergroup of musicians” including Billy Corgan, Fred Durst, K.K. Downing, Jake E. Lee, Tom Morello and others will also appear.
Wolfgang Van Halen was also set to appear, but he told Detroit’s WRIF that he has unfortunately had to back out of the show due to previous touring commitments with his band Mammoth as a support act for Creed. “I, unfortunately, had to back out because the Creed tour starts the day after, and I wouldn’t be able to pull it off — unfortunately. I’m very excited to watch it, but I unfortunately had to back out.”
Wolfgang was also asked to name his favorite guitar player who has played with Ozzy, and he understandably had a tough time making a pick. “I’m really bad at picking, ’cause that almost implies you don’t like another one in comparison,” he said. “And I feel like Randy was amazing, but you can’t not give cred to Tony being the legend and groundbreaking genre creator he was — and is. [Laughs] So I love ’em all. That’s not the answer you wanna hear.”
