Earlier this month, Green Day was performing at San Francisco’s Oracle Park when singer Billie Joe Armstrong lamented the upcoming move for his hometown baseball team, the Oakland A’s. The team is relocating to Las Vegas. Armstrong took a shot at the team’s owner, Josh Fisher, and blasted the city of Las Vegas in the process.
“We don’t take sh*t from people like f*cking John Fisher,” he said before adding, “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst sh*thole in America.”
Now a pair of Vegas radio stations are saying they’ll no longer play the group over their airwaves. KOMP 92.3 responded to the singer via Instagram saying, “KOMP 92.3 has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist. It’s not us, Billie…it’s you. #vegas4ever.”
Another station, X107.5 also wrote on their website: “Well, Sin City heard him loud and clear—and X107.5 is not having it. In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately.”
The station continued: “Considering he played a pop-up show at Fremont Country Club last year, we’re surprised at his comments. The show was spectacular! But now, Armstrong has crossed a line with Las Vegas locals. So we’re breaking up with Green Day completely. Bye Bye, Billie!”
Radio host Carlota Gonzalez also added: “Maybe he (Billie Joe) should take a look at the city and the people involved in that transaction than talking smack about the city of Las Vegas.”
