This past weekend, news broke that legendary hardcore wrestler Sabu had tragically passed away at the age of 60. This would subsequently see an outpouring of love towards the ECW original, with both WWE and AEW paying tribute to him. And now, a GoFundMe has been launched in association with Rob Van Dam to help cover his funeral costs.
Sabu was one of the most innovative wrestlers of the 90s, and for a few years, people would debate whether he was the best performer in the world. However, the fact that he didn’t have long runs in major promotions and wasn’t as smooth in the ring as Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart prevented him from attaining this status with the masses. Nevertheless, the often imitated but never duplicated wrestler still became a cult icon in both FMW and ECW, helping to put both promotions on the map.
