Frankie Kazarian Talks About His AEW Departure

Frankie Kazarian was one of AEW’s first signings after the company’s announcement, and he and Scorpio Sky would become the inaugural tag team champions by defeating the Lucha Brothers. Nevertheless, he was never heavily promoted as a featured performer after that, ultimately becoming a Dark regular. This would eventually lead him to request his release, and now while appearing on the latest episode of Kurt Angle’s podcast, he has discussed this.

I still had two years left on my contract when I left. I made the decision to leave. I still had two years left, I probably could have been there much longer. I re-signed at the end of 2021, and hindsight being what it is, I probably shouldn’t have, but again, AEW, I was there since before day one.

I feel that I have so much more to offer than what I was being utilized for at AEW. So I bet on myself, and I made the decision to walk away, and I’m very thankful I did. It’s by far the best decision I could have made.

Kazarian began his career in the late 1990s and has since competed in various promotions, including ROH, TNA, and WWE, in addition to AEW. And during this, he has been part of successful tag teams like Bad Influence and SCU and has also excelled as a singles competitor. Kazarian’s dedication, adaptability, and longevity have solidified his status as a respected veteran and a fan favorite, regardless of him playing heel or face.
